ATLANTA, Ga. - Austin College linebacker Jackson Townsend has been named the Southern Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week, the league office has announced. This is the first SAA honor for the 'Roos this season.

Townsend, a senior from Richardson, led Austin College with 11 tackles, including four solo stops, as the 'Roos held off Hendrix College for a 12-9 victory on Saturday. It was the first win of the year for Austin College, and brought the team's SAA record to 1-1. Townsend made 2.5 tackles-for-loss in the victory, and was instrumental in limiting Hendrix to just 217 yards of total offense and just 3.1 yards-per-play.

For the season, Townsend leads the 'Roos with 36 tackles, which also ties him for the SAA lead in that category.
