Offense Stifled in Road Loss to Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Austin College football team was never able to get its offense going and Centre scored at least once in each quarter to hand the 'Roos a 38-3 loss on the road on Saturday. The 'Roos are now 2-4 overall and 0-4 in Southern Athletic Association play.

Austin College mustered just 129 yards of total offense in the game, picking up eight first downs compared to 19 first downs and 386 total yards for the Colonels. The 'Roo defense limited Centre to just 71 rushing yards and only 1.5 yards-per-carry, but the Colonels were able to do damage through the air with quarterback Tanner Young completing 19-of-27 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns.

Centre got on the board with a 20-yard field goal early in the first quarter and added a touchdown pass with 6:49 left in the opening frame to go ahead 10-0, and the lead grew to 17-0 at halftime on a 60-yard touchdown pass by Young in the second quarter. Cesar Ruiz hit a 21-yard field goal to open up the third quarter, but Centre responded with another touchdown to go on top 24-3 after three, and the Colonels scored twice in the fourth quarter to make it a 38-3 final.

Colt Collins completed 7-of-28 passes for 68 yards and an interception and added a team-best 48 rushing yards, as Austin College was held to just 61 yards on the ground as a team. Adonis Martin caught two passes for 24 yards. Defensively, Jackson Townsend made 10 stops to lead Austin College, and Mason Binder had nine tackles including 1.5 tackles-for-loss. Shane Brooks made five stops and picked off a pass in the loss.

Austin College returns to Sherman next Saturday for Homecoming and Family Weekend, as they play host to Millsaps College with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. at Jerry Apple Stadium.
