Austin College Falls to Trinity in Season Finale

The Austin College football team dropped a 14-0 defensive struggle at Trinity University on Saturday, ending the team's season with an overall record of 3-7 in the program's final year in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Next year the 'Roos will enter the Southern Athletic Association as a football affiliate.

It was a battle between two strong defenses from the start, as neither team was able to find the endzone through the better part of three quarters. Trinity finally broke through with just 2:11 remaining in the third, on a seven yard run by Zach Trevino to make it 7-0 in favor of the Tigers.

Trinity would double its lead with just under 10 minutes left in the game, as Bo Black scored from four yards out to cap an 11 play drive that covered 40 yards, making it 14-0. Austin College got two more possessions the rest of the way, but the 'Roos never got farther than the Trinity 48-yard line down the stretch.

Colt Collins completed 9-of-25 passes for 69 yards and led the 'Roos with 23 yards on the ground, as Austin College was limited to just 126 yards of total offense in the game. Austin College's defense effectively shut down the Trinity passing game, limiting the Tigers to just 84 yards through the air, but Trinity piled up 184 yards on the ground.

Jackson Townsend finished a strong sophomore season with 12 tackles to pace Austin College, while James Hemen registered 10 tackles in his final game for the 'Roos. Morris Shell had six tackles, a sack, and an interception.
