'Roos Earn Road Victory at Texas Lutheran

Colt Collins threw for 200 yards and rushed for 98 more, totaling four touchdowns in his first career starts, and Austin College held off Texas Lutheran for a 30-28 victory on Saturday afternoon in Seguin. The 'Roos are now 3-6 overall this season with the win.

Austin College jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a 21-yard field goal by Cesar Ruiz with 3:30 left in the opening quarter, but Texas Lutheran answered with a Marquise Barrolle touchdown run to put the Bulldogs on top 7-3 less than a minute and a half later.

The 'Roos grabbed the lead once again early in thes second quarter, as Collins went eight yards for a touchdown to make it 10-7. The 'Roos forced a fumble on the ensuing TLU possession, and Collins went right back to work, finding Blake Hollenbeck for an 11-yard touchdown strike to make it a 17-7 game with 10:19 to play before halftime.

Texas Lutheran would respond with another Barrolle touchdown with 6:18 on the clock to make it 17-14, but Collins hit Kyle Mucerino for a 30 yard scoring strike to send Austin College into halftime leading 24-14.

The Bulldogs would grab the lead in the third quarter after Barrolle scored his third touchdown of the day and JB Brown caught a nine yard touchdown pass to put TLU on top 28-24 heading into the fourth. However, Collins broke a 65-yard run to get Austin College down inside the TLU five yard line, and the freshman quarterback would score from four yards out to put Austin College ahead 30-28 after a failed point after attempt with 14:56 left to play.

The 'Roo defense would come up with a fumble recovery from Morris Shell and a TJ Melontree interception down the stretch, and TLU kicker Chadd Brown's 53-yard field goal attempt as time expired fell short.

Collins completed 11-of-18 passes to get to 200 yards, with two touchdowns and a pick. He also rushed 16 times for 98 yards and two scores. Mucerino caught four passes for 70 yards to lead the 'Roos, and James Hemen made 10 tackles.
