The Austin College football team fell behind 24-0 and was unable to claw its way back, falling 38-28 to Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 4-3 this season.

Hendrix came out firing on all cylinders while the 'Roos struggled to get things going offensively in the first quarter, and the Warriors got a 15 yard touchdown run from Dayton Winn, a 31 yard touchdown pass from Seth Peters to Spencer Smith, and a two yard pass from Peters to Ethan Hoppe in the first quarter to go on top 21-0 after one. All three scoring drives for the Warriors went at least 72 yards.

In the second quarter the Warriors tacked on a 22 yard field goal with 13:03 left before halftime to make it 24-0, and Austin College was finally able to get on the board when Noah Jesko found Kyle Crawford for an 18 yard score. The point after attempt failed, making it 24-6 at halftime.

Austin College would pull within 10 midway through the third quarter when Casey Davis recovered a fumble in the endzone, and Jesko found Crawford for the two point conversion to make it 24-14 but Hendrix responded on the ensuing possession with a seven play, 76 yard drive ending with a one yard touchdown run by Peters to make it 31-14 after three.

The 'Roos got back to within 10 again on a 20 yard touchdown pass from Jesko to Cooper Woodyard, but on the very first play of the ensuing drive for Hendrix, Winn broke a 75 yard touchdown run to make it 38-21 with 10:35 left to play. Austin College would get on the board again with another 20 yard pass from Jesko to Woodyard to make it 38-28, but Hendrix recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.

Jesko finished the game 24-of-44 for 298 yards with three touchdowns and a pick, and Crawford hauled in five passes for 72 yards. Woodyard added 65 yards on four catches, while Bryce Murphy led the rushing attack with 52 yards on nine carries. Delmas Hoye paced the defense with nine tackles and two pass breakups.

Winn rushed 17 times for 190 yards as Hendrix piled up 275 rushing yards and 506 yards of total offense.

Austin College returns home on Saturday when they take on Southwestern University for Homecoming with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
