Jake Gonzalez enters his first year as an assistant coach for Austin College in 2017. Gonzalez will work with the Kangaroo pitchers during the upcoming season.

Gonzalez played for Houston Baptist University from 2010-2013, starting in centerfield and serving as the team's closer on the mound. He was a two-time All-Conference selection and was named to two All-Tournament teams during his career at HBU. Gonzalez still holds the record for most doubles at HBU, and ranks among the top five in multiple other hitting categories.

After his college career, Gonzalez played independent baseball in the Pecos League for the Garden City Wind. he also played in the Western Major Baseball League in Canada, for the Swift Current Indians, where he was a First Team All-Star and was nominated for the league's MVP award.

Gonzalez earned his degree from HBU in 2013 and in addition to his playing career, soon got into coaching for Double Diamond Training from 2013-2016. As part of Double Diamond Training, he coached more than 150 baseball and softball players from across Texas. Gonzalez also spent some time as an assistant coach at Jarvis Christian College in 2015 prior to leaving to play in the Pecos League.
