'Roos Drop Two to No. 1-ranked Trinity
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College baseball team battled toe to toe with No. 1-ranked Trinity on Friday, taking the lead in both games, but the 'Roos fell short with 12-4 and 8-6 losses to the Tigers. The 'Roos are now 4-12 overall and 0-9 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College baseball team battled toe to toe with No. 1-ranked Trinity on Friday, taking the lead in both games, but the 'Roos fell short with 12-4 and 8-6 losses to the Tigers. The 'Roos are now 4-12 overall and 0-9 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
In game one, the 'Roos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning after both teams went scoreless in the first. Logan Ballard got things started with a two-run single that plated Brandon Hill and Justin Alphonse, and Ballard would eventually score on a wild pitch. However, the lead was short-lived for the 'Roos, as Trinity pushed four runs across in the bottom half of the inning to make it 4-3.
That remained the score until the sixth, when Trinity got one more to make it 5-3, and the Tigers exploded for six runs in the seventh to make it an 11-3 game and put the game out of reach for the 'Roos. Nick Flynn launched a solo homer in the eighth for Austin College, and Trinity would plate one more in the bottom half of that inning to make it a 12-4 final.
Ryan Culp took the loss for Austin College after surrendering 11 runs on 11 hits in 6.2 innings of work, and Ballard finished 2-for-3 with two RBI to pace the 'Roos offensively.
The Tigers grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning of game two, but this time it was Austin College who used a four run inning to take a 4-3 lead, with the 'Roos putting four runs across in the top of the third. The 'Roos took advantage of multiple Trinity errors in the frame to take the lead, and in the fourth inning, Jake Webster and Zack Mahoney each drove in a run to make it a 6-3 advantage for Austin College.
The Tigers pulled to within two runs at 6-4 in the fifth, and then in the seventh inning Trinity tacked on four more runs to take an 8-6 lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way. Jake Thomas absorbed the loss for Austin College, giving up eight runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings of action, while Mahoney and Webster each had a pair of hits to lead the 'Roos at the dish.
