Dallas Tops 'Roo Baseball in Season Finale

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team found itself in a hole early and could never quite climb out, falling 14-9 to the University of Dallas in the team's final game of the 2019 season. The 'Roos finish the year with an overall record of 8-25 and a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark of 4-14. 

The Crusaders jumped on the board early with a run in the first, and three more runs came home in the second to make it a 4-0 game. Bennett Reagan brought the first Austin College run home in the bottom of the second to cut it to a 4-1 game, but Dallas would add another run in the third and two more in the fourth to go ahead 7-1.

Brett Taff plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth, and in the sixth inning the 'Roos got a solo homer from Josh Boring and a three-run shot from Jake Webster to cut it to a 7-6 game. A wild pitch brought home a run for the Crusaders in the seventh, pushing it to an 8-6 game, and after the 'Roos quickly retired two batters in the eighth, Dallas would take advantage of three errors to add five runs, making it a 13-6 game.

Austin College managed to get three of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning, with Oscar Gonzalez scoring on a balk to get things started. Cody Goggins brought home the next run, and an RBI single by Justin Alphonse made it 13-9. However, Dallas would tack on one more run in the ninth and Austin College was unable to answer in their final at-bat.

Jordan Miller took the loss for Austin College, surrendering five runs on three hits with a pair of walks in 2.0 innings of work. Five players had two hits apiece, including a 2-for-5 performance with three RBI from Webster. Gonzalez, Alphonse, and Reagan each went 2-for-4 in the loss.
