'Roos Fall to No. 4 Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College baseball team grabbed a big early lead but No. 4-ranked Trinity would rally past the 'Roos, with the Tigers taking a 10-6 decision on Saturday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 7-17 overall and 3-9 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The 'Roos struck first with an RBI single by Oscar Gonzalez in the second inning, and three runs would come across in the third to make it a 4-0 game. Jake Webster and Clay Gilbert each brought home a run in the inning, and Webster came around to score on a wild pitch for the third run of the frame. However, Trinity would quickly get three runs back on a three-run homer by Rafe Chaumette in the bottom of the third, and after Cody Goggins brought home a run in the fourth to make it 5-3, the Tigers pushed three runs across in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-5 lead.

The Trinity lead grew to 8-5 in the fifth, and after Brett Taff drove in a run in the sixth, the Tigers scored once more in the seventh and once in the eighth to make it a 10-6 final. Kyle Lemke took the loss for Austin College, surrendering six runs - four earned - on five hits in 4.0 innings of work. Goggins had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-5 to lead Austin College offensively, and Taff and Nick Flynn each had a pair of hits in the loss.
