'Roos Drop Two to Close Season

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College baseball team dropped both halves of its regular season-ending doubleheader at Trinity University on Saturday, falling 10-6 in game one and 11-7 in game two. The 'Roos wrap up the year with an overall record of 12-25 and a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark of 6-12.

The 'Roos fell behind 3-0 in game one before Scott Gelbart singled home Austin Dudley in the third, but two more runs for the Tigers in the bottom half of the inning made it 5-1. The margin grew to 6-1 in the fourth before Austin College plated four runs in the top of the fifth to cut it to a one run game. James Wyche's three-run double highlighted the inning for Austin College.

Trinity would answer with a run in the sixth, and after an RBI single from Dudley in the eighth, the Tigers put the game away with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Christian Thomas took the loss for Austin College, surrendering five runs on three hits in 2.0 innings of work. Chance Hatchel went 3-for-5 to lead the 'Roos at the plate.

In game two, the two sides took a scoreless matchup into the fifth inning before a run came across for Trinity. Justin Alphonse plated a run in the sixth to square things up, but Trinity would explode for six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-1 lead. 

Austin College brought home three runs in the eighth, with Gelbart doubling home a run and later scoring in the inning, but Trinity plated four runs in their half inning to make it an 11-4 game. Austin College would get three more runs in the top of the ninth, with Alphonse, Michael Winterrowd, and Thomas Oberg all bringing home a run, but the rally would fall short.

Brett Moody absorbed the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on four hits in 5.2 innings of work. Dudley finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored to lead the 'Roos at the dish.
