SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team overcame six errors and an early 3-0 deficit to top visiting Schreiner University 11-6 on Friday evening at Baker Field. The 'Roos are now 10-22 overall this year and 4-9 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the victory.

After a scoreless first inning, a pair of errors by the 'Roos in the top of the second opened the door for two runs to come across for Schreiner, and the Mountaineers would once again take advantage of a defensive miscue in the fourth to go ahead 3-0. However, Austin College would take advantage of three errors by the Mountaineers in the bottom half of the inning to plate four runs of their own and take a 4-3 lead.

Two runs came across on a throwing errors, and Michael Winterrowd drove in the team's third run of the game before another error brought the fourth run of the inning home for the 'Roos. Brett Taff tripled to deep center to plate Scott Gelbart in the fifth, and three more runs would cross the plate in the sixth to push it to an 8-3 Austin College lead. Josh Boring and Austin Dudley would each drive in a run during the frame.

Schreiner got three runs back in the top of the seventh to cut it to an 8-6 game, but that's as close as things would get as Austin College countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it an 11-6 game. Taff doubled home a run and Chance Hatchel singled in one more before scoring on a wild pitch later in the seventh.

Christian Thomas earned his third victory of the season, tossing 6.1 innings and surrendering six runs – only two earned – on just four hits with five strikeouts and six walks. Chase Almaguer came on to get his first save of the year, throwing 2.2 innings with no runs on one hit with two strikeouts.

Gelbart finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored to pace Austin College at the plate, and Taff finished 2-for-3 and Winterrowd added a 2-for-4 performance at the dish.

Austin College and Schreiner will close out their three game series with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow at Baker Field. A Senior Day ceremony will take place before the first game begins, at approximately 11:45 a.m.
