Big Inning Sinks 'Roos in Loss to Pirates

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team jumped out to a 4-0 lead but a nine run inning for Southwestern gave the Pirates the edge for good, as the 'Roos fell 12-5 on Saturday. The 'Roos fall to 8-22 overall on the season with the loss.

Gus Daniel got the scoring started for Austin College with a two run homer in the second, and Austin Dudley added a solo shot as part of a two run third inning to make it a 4-0 game. However, the Pirates got a three run triple and a two run homer as part of a nine run inning in the bottom of the third to go on top 9-4, and they would not look back.

The lead grew to 12-4 before Scott Gelbart brought home a run with an RBI single in the top of the eighth to make it a seven run final margin. Chase Almaguer took the loss, surrendering 11 runs on 10 hits in 4.0 innings of work. Dudley finished 2-for-4, and Thomas Oberg added a pair of hits in the loss.
