'Roo Baseball Earns Non-Conference Win Over Hendrix

TEXARKANA, Texas - The Austin College baseball team traveled to Texarkana for a neutral site spring break game against Hendrix on Wednesday, topping the Warriors 9-4 to snap a four-game skid. The 'Roos are now 5-15 overall on the season with the victory.

The 'Roos jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI base knock by Oscar Gonzalez, and after a run came home for Hendrix in the fifth to square things up, Austin College responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to grab a 3-1 lead. Scott Gelbart's three-run double in the sixth pushed the Austin College lead to 6-1, but Hendrix would counter with three runs of their own in the seventh to trim it to a 6-4 game.

However, the 'Roos would get a two-run double from Brett Taff, and an error opened the door to Taff stealing home as Austin College put three across in the eighth to make it a 9-4 final. Taff finished 3-for-5 at the dish, and also earned the victory on the hill after surrendering one unearned run on five hits in 5.0 innings of work.

Gonzalez worked four innings to collect a save, and also went 2-for-4 at the plate. Gelbart finished 1-for-5, while Gus Daniel went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, Michael Winterrowd went 3-for-5, and Thomas Oberg was 2-for-4.
