Austin College Completes Weekend Sweep of Dallas

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team plated four runs in the eighth to come away with a 7-4 victory over the University of Dallas on Sunday. With the win, the 'Roos complete a three game series sweep over the Crusaders and improve to 9-5 overall this season.

The 'Roos jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Gus Daniel came home on an error in the bottom of the second, but Dallas even things in the next half inning with an unearned run of its own to make it 1-1. That remained the score until James Arguello singled home Thomas Oberg in the fourth to make it 2-1, and an RBI triple from Scott Gelbart plated Oberg again and made it a 3-1 game in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh an error with two outs opened the door for a big inning for the Crusaders, with three runs coming across to put Dallas ahead 4-3. JP Fasone had an RBI single in the inning for Dallas.

The 'Roos failed to get any runs back in the bottom of the seventh, but in the eight inning Gelbart reached on an error, plating Oscar Gonzalez to square things up. Arguello put the 'Roos ahead with a sacrifice fly, and Austin Dudley ripped a two run single to put Austin College on top 7-4. Braley Williams would shut the door on the Crusaders in the ninth on his way to earning the win in relief.

Williams pitched two perfect innings to get the victory, his first of the season, after coming on in relief of Brett Moody. Moody got a no decision after surrendering four runs – all unearned – on 10 hits in 7.0 innings of work. Oberg went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and Daniel went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Gelbart, Arguello, and Dudley each had two RBI in the victory.

With the victory, the 'Roos have now already surpassed last season's total of eight wins.
