'Roos Complete Series Sweep of Arlington Baptist

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team finished its three game series sweep of Arlington Baptist on Saturday morning, picking up a 5-2 victory to bring the team's record to 3-0 to open the year.

After a scoreless first inning, Austin College got on the board in the bottom of the second when Gus Daniel came home on an error at second to make it a 1-0 game. Arlington Baptist would counter in the fourth, but the 'Roos opened things up in the bottom of the fifth with three runs to make it a 4-1 game. James Arguello and RJ Melton each belted an RBI single in the inning, and Thomas Oberg drilled a two-run double.

Oberg added an RBI single in the seventh to make it a 5-1 game, and after a balk brought home a run for the Patriots in the top of the eighth, Collin Maynard came on in the ninth to shut the door and earn his first collegiate save.

Josh Lewis picked up the win, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven batters. Oberg finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Jeremy Halford went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, and Arguello went 1-or-2 with two runs, an RBI, and two stolen bases.

Austin College will finish up the weekend tomorrow with a single game against Park University scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Baker Field.
