'Roo Baseball Drops Pair at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - After two weeks of cancellations due to inclement weather, the Austin College baseball team was back on the diamond Saturday against Centenary College. The 'Roos fell in both halves of the doubleheader with the Gents, falling 15-2 in game one before dropping a 2-0 pitchers duel in game two. The 'Roos are now 2-4 overall.

In game one, the Gents plated a run in the first before putting four runs across in the second. The 'Roos plated a run in the top of the third when Jeremy Halford came home, but Centenary added 10 more runs over the next three innings to surge ahead 15-1. The 'Roos scored one more run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Thomas Oberg to make it a 15-2 final.

Chase Almaguer took the loss for Austin College after surrendering 11 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits in 4.0 innings of work. Oberg finished 2-for-4 to pace the 'Roos offensively.

In game two, Centenary took a 1-0 lead after two innings and Austin College was unable to get much offense going early on. The 'Roos put runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings, including loading the bases in the top of the seventh, but were unable to push the tying run across the plate. The 'Roos once again loaded the bases in the eighth but once again were kept off the board, and the Gents tacked on a run in the bottom half of the inning.

Austin College went down in order in the ninth to make it a 2-0 final. Mychael Parish surrendered two runs on eight hits in 7.2 innings of work to absorb the loss. James Arguello finished 3-for-4 with a double to lead the 'Roos on offense.
