'Roo Baseball Places Fourth at SCAC Tournament

The Austin College baseball team dropped its final two games at the SCAC Tournament, falling 19-3 to Centenary and 8-1 to Dallas on its way to finishing fourth at the championship. The 'Roos finish the season with an overall record of 12-29.

Against Centenary on Friday, the 'Roos fell in a 6-0 hole after the first inning and the deficit grew to 9-0 after three. In the fourth, Austin College chipped away at the margin by plating three runs highlighted by a two run single by Will Schommer to make it 9-3, but the Gents answered back with five in the bottom half of the inning to make it 14-3. Five more runs came home for Centenary in the sixth to put the game away.

Todd Takabuki took the loss, surrendering six runs, four earned, on five hits in 0.1 innings of work. Schommer finished 2-for-2 with two RBI to lead the 'Roos offensively.

Against Dallas on Saturday, the Crusaders jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first and exploded for six runs in the third to make it a 7-0 game before Austin College was finally able to get on the board in the seventh when Travis Gibson scored on an error to make it 7-1, but UD responded with a run in the eighth to make it an 8-1 final.

Blaine Tew took the loss for the 'Roos, giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits in 2.0 innings on the mound. Austin Vaughan went 3-for-5 and Tyler Appelquist went 2-for-5 to lead the 'Roos offensively.
