'Roo Baseball Edged by No. 3 Trinity

A three run fifth inning for No. 3-ranked Trinity University proved to be the difference against the Austin College baseball team on Sunday afternoon, as the 'Roos fell 4-1 to the Tigers at Baker Field. The 'Roos are now 4-15 overall and 1-7 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the loss.

The Tigers got on the board in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly, but Blaine Tew threw four solid innings before the Trinity bats finally started getting to him in the fifth, with Dominick Robusto and Nick Pappas each doubling home a run during the three run frame to make it 4-0.

That would be the last of Trinity's scoring, however, as Marshall Korn and John Schulmeister combined to allow no runs on just three hits over the game's final three innings. The 'Roos managed to get on the board in the bottom of the ninth when Schulmeister scored on a base hit by Shane Williams, but that's as close as Austin College would get.

Five different players collected one hit apiece for the 'Roos, while Tew took the loss after surrendering four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. Ryan Lucero got the win for the Tigers, throwing 8.0 shutout innings and surrendering four hits.

Austin College is scheduled to play Manhattan Christian College each of the next two days, with game times set for 6:00 p.m. on Monday and 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
