CC blanks Austin In regular-season finale

Box Score Colorado College tuned up for the 2012 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 2-0 victory at Austin College in the regular-season finale on Sunday.

All-American Matt Fechter broke the scoreless deadlock with 2:41 remaining in the first half when his corner kick curled into the net for what proved to be his fifth game winner of the season and the 13th of his career.

With his 44th career tally, the senior forward moved into a tie with John Monteiro (1974-77) for ninth place on the program's all-time list. Fechter's 16 goals this season are the most by a Tiger since Patrick McGinnis led the nation with 39 in 2004.

Senior midfielder Keith Drury doubled CC's lead in the 55th minute off touches from senior forward Daniel Wright and Fechter. It was Drury's first goal since the 4-3 overtime victory against CU-Colorado Springs in the 2011 season opener at Stewart Field.

It also marked the seventh time this season Fechter has recorded a goal and an assist in the same game. He leads the SCAC in goals (16), assists (13) and points (45).

Senior goalkeeper Forrest Marowitz made both of his saves during the final 3:03 to complete his fifth shutout of the season and the eighth of his career. He improved to 10-1-2 this year and lowered his goals-against average to 0.43.

The Tiger defense recorded its 11th blanking of the season.

Sophomore goalie Andrew Celio stopped five shots for the Roos.

CC finished with a 16-10 advantage in total shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Colorado College improved to 13-4-2 overall and 6-2-2 in the SCAC. Austin slipped to 8-8-2 overall and 4-6-0 in league play.

The Tigers enter the SCAC playoffs as the second seed and will face the winner of Friday's first-round match between Southwestern University and Centenary College at 7:30 p.m. CT Saturday. The championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT Sunday.
