CC Rallies to Edge Austin College

Box Score The late-game heroics continued for the Colorado College men's basketball team.

John Hatch sank a pair of free throws with less than a second remaining to lift CC to a dramatic 66-64 victory over Austin College on Sunday afternoon at Hughey Gym.

After working off most of the final 14 seconds, Hatch was fouled at the rim off of a back-door cut by Austin Freet with only 0.75 on the clock.

With their fourth consecutive victory, the Tigers improved to 6-9 overall and 5-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. They now hold a game and a half lead over Texas Lutheran University atop the league standings.

Eric Houska poured in a career-high 28 points, including 19 in the second half, to help Colorado College erase a 10-point deficit during the final 14 minutes.

After trailing by as many as 11 points early in the second frame, the Tigers took their first lead since the first half when Houska canned back-to-back three-pointers to put his team ahead, 54-52, with 4:54 to  go.

Hatch scored five of the next six points to give CC a six-point advantage, and after Austin's Brian Baehl hit a short jumper, Houska dialed long distance give Colorado College its largest lead of the game at 62-55.

Austin Wells pulled to 'Roos to within three points with 45 seconds to play, and after Houska hit a free throw, the home team tied the score with 14 seconds remaining on the second of back-to-back buckets by Jeremy Swisher

Freshman forward CooXooEii Black finished with a season-high 15 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Tigers. Hatch added 13 points, reaching double digits for the 14th time in 15 games. He also blocked three shots and dished out three assists.

Chris Martin grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, scored six points and matched his career high of four assists to help CC post its ninth consecutive win over Austin.

After shooting less than 30 percent from the floor in the first half, Colorado College made 15 of 29 field-goal attempts during the final 20 minutes, including four of six from behind the arc.

The Tigers also tied their season high with nine blocked shots.

Swisher scored 16 points for the 'Roos, who slipped to 6-10 overall and 2-3 in the SCAC.
 
Wells finished with 14 points, while JP Feider added nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Colorado College visits Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
