#4 Pirates split final day of SCAC play

KERRVILLE, Texas – In the final weekend of SCAC action the Pirates split matches to finish in second place in the conference.

#6 Colorado College, with their backs against the wall after losing to Trinity on Saturday, came out firing against the Pirates and took the opening two sets. Southwestern rallied to force a fifth set but could not complete the turnaround to fall 3-2.

It was a battle of offensive powers in the final match as SU took on Austin College. AC hit .260 as a team but Southwestern was stronger with a .302 attack percentage in the match to win 3-0.

The Pirates (27-2, 12-2) return home for senior night on Friday, taking on #8 UT Dallas at 6 pm.

COACH FLORA ON SUNDAY'S SPLIT

"The staff is very aware of what it takes for this team to win verses solid competition and today it took us too long to find that rhythm and effort.  But, this team has heart and takes every match personally, finding a way to give us an opportunity to win the fifth set."

"Sometimes the breaks don't go your way and sometimes you need to make plays happen to secure that type of compact win."

"More importantly today was taking down Austin College in straight sets thirty minutes after the end of the Colorado College match. Our attention to the serving and passing game was more dialed in throughout the Austin match.  Our staff is proud of this team for taking care of themselves and their teammates. We will grow and continue to attack the season goals that this team has set for themselves."
