Pirates and 'Roos match ends in scoreless tie

Pirates and 'Roos match ends in scoreless tie

SHERMAN, Texas - Even with two more shots on goal than Austin College had shots, the Pirates were unable to put one in the back of the net, ending in a 0-0 tie.

Southwestern was blazing out of the gate, but were held off-balance by an effective offside trap by the 'Roos as Southwestern had four offside calls in the opening 11 minutes.

The Pirates closed the first half with great looks by Matthew Nickell and Timothy Eamma that were saved by AC keeper Andrew Celio.

As the second half got underway a Pirate goal seemed eminate as SU had the first eight shots and four corner kicks of the half before Austin had their first decent look at goal.

The two overtimes were dominated by the Pirates, but  Austin College's defense battled off the numerous attacks to keep the game scoreless as the clock hit zero, handing Southwestern their first tie of the season.

Southwestern moves to 10-5-1 and 8-1-1 in the SCAC after the match. They remain on the road to face Centenary College on Sunday in Shreveport.
