Celts Edged 2-1 By Austin College

In a closely contested baseball showdown, Austin edged past St. Thomas (Tex.) with a final score of 2-1.

The game started off as a pitching duel, with both teams held scoreless through the first two innings. Austin broke the deadlock in the top of the third inning when Ryan Padfield drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing home Scott Hosmer for the first run of the game. RayShawn Riley added another run with a groundout, allowing Brandon Hill to score, giving Austin a 2-0 lead.

St. Thomas tried to mount a comeback but struggled to find offensive momentum against Austin's pitching. However, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Dylan Lamb provided a spark with a solo home run, cutting Austin's lead to 2-1.

Despite a late surge from St. Thomas, Austin's pitching held firm, securing the narrow victory. Trystan Mallory delivered an impressive performance on the mound for Austin, pitching eight solid innings and allowing just one run. Brant Stuber closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.

Despite St. Thomas's efforts, they couldn't overcome Austin's early lead, ultimately falling short in a hard-fought battle on the diamond.
