Tigers Take Second In Programs First CWPA Championship Appearance

Kenosha, WI- This weekend Wittenberg Water Polo placed second in the CWPA Championship Tournament, their first appearance in a championship as a program. Going into the weekend the Tigers were placed second in the tournament, to then face number three ranked Grove City College. The Tigers fought hard in the semifinal game to take down Grove City College 13-9 in order to play in the championship game against number one rank Austin College. 

Game One Breakdown 

Sophomore Savannah Cross was the first to score against Grove City College. The Tigers fell short in the first quarter of the game 3-5 but came back strong the second quarter scoring six. With a tough first quarter, the Tigers were pumped back up by coach Sivan Pardon to then only allow one goal in the second and third quarter. In the semifinal game freshman Grace McLaughlin led the Tigers with four goals, follow by junior captain Emma Menjivar with three goals. Ultimately the Tigers defeated the Wolverines 13-9 to earn themselves a spot in the championship game. 

Championship Game Breakdown 

Making history for the program, the Tigers faced the Roos of Austin College for their championship game. Falling hard 0-7 in the first quarter, the Tigers fought their way onto the score board the next quarter to burry three goals in the back on the net. Freshman Grace McLaughlin and Riley Kettelson got the Tigers on the board before halftime. With a hard fought third quarter with no goals on the board, the Tigers came out the final quarter or the game going 3-3 with the Roos. Making history for their young program, the Tigers took home the runner up plaque for the CWPA championship Tournament along with McLaughlin earning the rookie of the tournament.
