Tigers shine under the Washburn Field lights

Box Score Senior Matt Fechter and the men's soccer team had a night to remember in their first game on the new turf at Washburn Field.

Fechter struck for the third hat trick of his career to propel the Tigers to a 4-1 victory over Austin College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game.

The All-America forward put the Tigers on the board 12:02 into the game when he buried a cross from junior midfielder Sean Parham. A little more than six minutes later, Fechter scored on a nearly identical play set up by senior forward Daniel Wright.

Fechter's third game-winning goal of the year also gave him double-digit tallies for the third time in four seasons.

Sophomore midfielder Alec Martinez made it 3-0 when he scored his first career goal with six minutes remaining in the first half, using his body to re-direct junior midfielder Andrew Salazar's cross from the left corner.

Fechter completed his sixth career multiple-goal contest in the 53rd minute when he buried senior defender Kyle Buchwalder's cross from the right corner.

Senior Forrest Marowitz improved to 6-0-0 in goal, making three saves before giving way to freshman Ian Horne with 16:33 remaining in the second half.

Sophomore forward Caleb Sherer broke up the shutout in the 88th minute with an unassisted tally.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Celio finished with six saves for the Kangaroos.

The teams play again in the regular season finale on Oct. 28 in Sherman, Texas.

CC, ranked No. 25 in the NSCAA/Continental Tires Division III Coaches Poll, improved to 9-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the SCAC. The Kangaroos slipped to 6-4-2 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.

Colorado College plays host to Centenary College on Sunday afternoon on Stewart Field.
