This Week in AC Athletics, 4/10 - 4/16

What an exciting week in AC Athletics it was, #RooNation.  All three Spring Sports teams earned wins against tough opponents going into the final three weeks of competition!

Baseball and Softball are both home, with the Men’s Team hosting Senior Day against Schreiner on Sunday, and Distance Track travels down the road to A&M Commerce for their final regular season meet.

Let’s get to the highlights from this past week and update you on the start times for when you can catch your last home games of the year.  This is your AC Athletics Update!

Softball

The diamond-cutters of the Austin College Softball Team stole one at home with a huge come-from-behind effort in the 7th inning over Trinity University.

A throwing error by the Tigers started a sequence where the ‘Roos earned three consecutive walks to load the bases and bring a runner across home place to make the score 2-3.

With no outs, Beth Massey singled to left field to bring in the tying run and keep the bases loaded.  Finally, Emily Low singled through the left-infield and brought in the winning run for just the second SCAC victory on the year for the Kangaroos.

AC returns to the diamond for their final two home games of the season against Brooklyn today at 5:00pm.  Get out there and show your support for the Softball Team as they still have an SCAC series left in their regular season.

To finish their Conference Play on a high note would be a tremendous push for the SCAC Tournament and 17-18.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

It was a tremendously successful weekend for Austin College Tennis this past weekend.  For the first time since 2012, AC defeated the Mountaineers of Schreiner University; 5-4 on the Women’s side and 6-3 on the Men’s Side over the #17 team in the West Region.

Just two years ago, in the spring of 2015, Schreiner University defeated the Kangaroos 9-0 (M) and 8-1 (W).  And last year, the Mountaineers won two closely contested, 6 hour and 30 minute matches 5-4 on both sides.

With first year athlete Siddharth Kortikere and Senior Magan Green clinching the fifth point for their teams, Austin College moves to 10-4 (2-1) on the Men’s season, and 8-7 (2-1) on the Women’s season.

The Kangaroos are off this weekend, but will return to the courts next weekend for a San Antonio, TX, SCAC Triple-Header against Colorado College, Texas Lutheran, and Trinity before the SCAC Championships.

Softball is home tonight for their final home games of the year, Baseball is home Friday and hosting Senior Day on Saturday.  Come on out to the ball games this weekend, and as always, when supporting your ‘Roos home or abroad,
