This Week in AC Athletics, 10/24 - 10/30

We have a few teams that clinched a bid in SCAC Post-Season Competition, #RooNationMen’s Soccer and Volleyball have punched their tickets to the SCAC Championships with wins this past weekend.

What is particularly exciting about Men’s Soccer is that the Tournament will be hosted here, on the campus of Austin College!  Talk about “Home Field Advantage.”

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country will travel to Round Rock to compete in their Conference Championships this weekend, and Football hosts Southwestern this weekend at Jerry Apple Stadium for Senior Day and Joy & Jerry Apple Appreciation Day.  We will need all of #RooNation out there to show your support and appreciation to all of our Seniors and for the Apple Family.

We have a lot that we need to recap, so let’s get to it!  This is the Austin College Athletics Update.

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country

We lead today with the only team participating in their SCAC Conference Championships this weekend: Men’s & Women’s Cross Country.

The Women’s Team has had a banner year and looks poised to surge at the appropriate time this weekend into the top half of the SCAC Final Standings.

The Men’s Team, led by freshman phenom Matthew Gregory, looks to climb the ladder as well, with seniors Jeff Kubena, Cody Myers competing in their second and last Championship Meet.

Women’s Volleyball

The Kangaroos managed to pick up a huge 3-0 win for Presleigh Watson and Madison Lee against Arlington Baptist on Senior Night.  Then on the road, AC defeated Texas Lutheran and Schreiner 3-0, but fell to #4 Southwestern and #18 Trinity 3-0 as well.

Volleyball secured the 4th-seed in the SCAC Tournament starting this November.  But with one more tournament left to play, they have a chance to extend their record past the 20-win threshold at the Centenary Halloween Tournament on Friday and Saturday this week.

    • Neutral vs. Belhaven @ 11:00 AM
    • Neutral vs. Letourneau @ 3:00 PM

Football

AC suffered a tough defeat to the Trinity Tigers at home this weekend, dropping their record to 2-5.  But there are plenty of opportunities left for our Kangaroos to secure wins against Conference Opponents in the final year of SCAC football.

SENIOR DAY in conjunction with Joy and Jerry Apple Celebration Day is this Saturday, October 29th at Jerry Apple Stadium.  Make sure you come out to support our Seniors and extend your appreciations for what Joy and Jerry Apple have done for our Football Program and Athletics Department over so many years.

  • Saturday, October 29th, 2016
    • Senior Day
    • Joy and Jerry Apple Appreciation Day
      • Home vs. Southwestern University @ 1:00 PM

Men’s Soccer

With a scoreless tie against University of Dallas and a 1-0 defeat against #20 Colorado College, the Men’s Soccer team secured their spot in the SCAC Conference Tournament for the first time since 2013.

Their timing could not have been better, as Austin College is the host for this year’s SCAC Championships next weekend, November 4th-6th.

AC was picked to finish 7th in the SCAC at the beginning of the year, but exceeding expectations is hardly enough of a description for their season; the Kangaroos have a chance to finish 3rd in the regular season with a win over Centenary this weekend (and some help from Texas Lutheran by way of a win over Southwestern).

No matter what, the Kangaroos have life after the regular season concludes.  Great job AC!

  • Saturday,  10/29: Away vs. Centenary College @ 5:00 PM

Women’s Soccer

The Women’s Soccer Team forced a 0-0 2OT draw with the University of Dallas on Senior Day.  They have one final game against a conference opponent this weekend when they travel to Centenary College this Saturday, October 29th before their season concludes.  Good luck, AC, and thank you Seniors for all of your hard work and dedication over your four years here!

  • Saturday, 10/29: Away vs. Centenary College @ 7:00 PM

Cross Country is the first Fall Sports Team to participate in SCAC Conference Championships this season, so make sure to wish them luck before they head to Round Rock.

Football is the only home contest this weekend, so make sure you come out and support our Seniors against Southwestern this Saturday, and show you appreciation for Joy and Jerry Apple and all they have done for Austin College Athletics.  I know that they will be proud of who we are, and how in support of our Athletes we always remember to…

Be Loud

Be Proud

Be Positive

GO ‘ROOS!
