Wong Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College Athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighing our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo women's water polo player and swimmer Lexi Wong.

Wong, a freshman from Lantana, has had an historic first year as a collegiate athlete both as a member of the women's swimming and diving team and the women's water polo team. Wong was a part of numerous record-setting relays for Austin College swimming, including helping break the program record in the 400 free relay that had stood for more than 20 years. She also helped break the program's 18-year-old 400 medley relay mark, with both of those record-setting performances taking place at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet in February. Adding to her record-breaking performances, she also helped top the old 200 medley relay mark on day one of the conference meet.

This spring, Wong's success has continued in the inaugural season of women's water polo at Austin College. Wong scored 30 goals in the regular season and kicked off her first postseason with a bang, tallying a program record eight goals as the 'Roos topped Penn State Behrend in the first round of the CWPA Division III Championships. After her stellar first regular season, Wong was named the CWPA Division III West Region Rookie of the Year, in addition go being a CWPA Division III West Region first team selection. Earlier this season, she became the first player in program history to earn CWPA Division III Rookie of the Week honors, as well.
