Pope Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College Athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighing our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo men's water polo player Andrew Pope.

Pope, a freshman from Flower Mound, had an historic season for the 'Roos in the program's first season of varsity competition. Pope led Austin College with 27 goals on the year, and became the first player in program history to earn MPSF weekly honors when he was named the Newcomer of the Week. That award came after Pope tallied a goal with just eight seconds left, lifting Austin College over Monmouth for the first victory in program history. The first-year attacker also added honorable mention All-MPSF accolades, and further distinguished himself with honorable mention Division III All-America status.

In addition to starring in the pool for the 'Roos, Pope also excels in the classroom and serves as a team leader for the 'Roos under first year head coach Mark Lawrence.
