AC Athletics Update 11/19

Happy Thanksgiving Break, #RooNation.  All of our students, staff, faculty, and administrators have been working hard this year, and we in AC Athletics want to wish all of you safe travels, and a Happy Holiday to you and yours.

While the Holiday will give our Student-Athletes a much deserved break in their season, we still have competitions, home and away, of which to inform you.  We will recap Men’s Water Polo’s season and Men’s & Women’s Basketball in the SCAC/SAA Challenge.  This is the next installment of the AC Athletics Update!

Men’s Basketball

With a win over Hendrix on Sunday, the Kangaroo Men’s Basketball team levelled their record at .500 for the season, and .500 for the SCAC/SAA Challenge.  Devin Roland made a go-ahead layup with 0:35 seconds that sealed the win over the Warriors.

Austin College will travel to Longview, TX to face LeTourneau on Tuesday.  Follow @ACSports and @ACRoos_MBB for all updates and final results.

  • Tuesday, November 20th, 2018
    • Away vs. LeTourneau @ 7:00PM

Women’s Basketball

Two dominant performances from this past weekend’s SCAC/SAA Challenge keep the Women’s Basketball Team undefeated in 2018-19.  AC defeated Millsaps 77-59 and Hendrix 65-54.  The Kangaroos have competed in this challenge each of the last 4 years and maintained an unblemished 8-0 record against SAA opponents in that time.

The ‘Roos will turn their eyes to a home game against a tough UT-Dallas squad on Saturday, November 24th at 3:00PM.  So any of you that plan on coming back to Sherman early, pack the stands in Hughey Gymnasium for what is sure to be a barn-burner.

Men’s Water Polo

Now that the first-ever season of Division III Water Polo in the state of Texas has concluded, it is important for us to look back on the year that was for Austin College Men’s Water Polo.  In a conference that has the Top 4 D1 programs in the country and several USA Olympic Team members, Freshman Andrew Pope made All-Conference Honorable Mention, and Sophomore Andrew Pomier finished Top 3 in the Conference for saves per game.

Pope was also MPSF Newcomer of the Week after scoring 9 goals on 13 shots against 3 Nationally Ranked NCAA Division 1 programs.  Alex Rodriguez scored the first home game goal in program history against Brown and Will Koelzer scored the first goal in program history in Providence against Brown.

Congratulations on a great year, Kangaroos.  We are looking forward to next fall already, and anxiously awaiting the premier of the Women’s Water Polo season this March.

Only one home game this weekend, #RooNation, but it’s a big one.  Make your way to Hughey Gymnasium at 3:00PM on Saturday, November 24th to watch AC Women’s Basketball vs. UT-Dallas.  And any of you in the Longview/East Texas area, find a way to come support your Men’s Basketball Team on the road.
