This Week in AC Athletics, 9/6/18

What a wild Labor Day Weekend it was for Austin College Athletics!  We had nine (9) competitions on campus (and President O’Day and Cece were at all of them), with 15 total competitions nationwide.

Many of our Kangaroo Athletic Teams opened their season with victories, and a few are looking for their first ‘W’ this weekend, so let’s get to the recap and the schedule as soon as possible. This is the AC Athletics Update!

Women’s Soccer

The Women’s Soccer Team fell in a tough matchup against McMurry 4-1 to start their season, and then dropped a tightly contested overtime match against Sul Ross.  But the Kangaroos are home again this weekend taking on ETBU Thursday, and the SCAC Home Opener against Johnson & Wales on Sunday.  Come out to the Dr. Jack Pierce Memorial Soccer Complex to cheer on AC under the lights tonight!

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country

The ‘Roos ran well in their 2018 opener last weekend in a meet hosted by Dallas Baptist.  The Men’s Team finished 6th out of 9 teams (the Top SCAC school in the meet), and the Women’s Team placed several runners in the Top-40.  Be on the lookout for some more fast times this weekend as Austin College travels to The Braveheart Invitational hosted by UT-Tyler this Friday.

The ‘Roos finished the weekend at 3-1, but host another tournament this weekend with 4 more opportunities for victories.  Come out to Hughey Gym on Friday and Saturday to show your support.

Last season’s SCAC Newcomer of the Year, #20 West Region Singles Player, and half of the #13 West Region Doubles Team, Melody Duong, along with #25 West Region Singles Player Diana Carvajalino lead the charge against the #11 West Region UT-Dallas Comets and the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles on Friday and Saturday.

Football

With a lead going into the fourth quarter against NAIA S’western Assemblies of God University, there is a lot to be proud of when reflecting upon our Kangaroos in their home opener last weekend.

On the road for the first time this season, AC will take on Wayland Baptist this Saturday at 1:00PM.  Good luck to Coach Dawson and the ‘Roos Football Team.  We hope you bring home the ‘W.’

    • Away vs. Wayland Baptist at 1:00PM

Men’s Water Polo

Although we did not find our Men’s Water Polo team their program’s first victory, this past weekend was a tremendous success for Head Coach Mark Lawrence and the ‘Roos for both their program, and our institution.

ESPN+ streamed all 4 of the games online, so hopefully you were able to catch some of the action.  But the brand awareness our Water Polo Team created for Austin College on a National scale by taking on some of the Nation’s most well-established water polo teams will prove to be invaluable.

Congratulations on a successful first trip, Kangaroos.  We can’t wait to see more of the same.

Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, and Men’s Soccer are all on campus this weekend.  So make sure you come visit their respective facilities to show them your support.  #RooNation is the best fan base in Texas, so when visitors come to town, we want to show them how to support your teams the right way.  For those of you who can’t make it to our road contests, here are the social media handles so you can stay “in the know.”
