AC Athletics Update 10/31

Fall Sports Conference Championships are upon us #RooNation, and we got started last weekend with Cross Country finishing 5th and 6th in the Men’s and Women’s meets, respectively.

This weekend, Men’s Soccer and Volleyball embark on their quests for NCAA berths, Swimming & Diving keeps it rolling in Arkansas, and Football brings the battle back to Sherman, TX against longtime rival, Trinity University.

We will recap the action from this past weekend and preview the matchups ahead in this installment of the AC Athletics Update!

Men’s Soccer

The Kangaroos had already clinched a spot in the SCAC Tournament two weekends ago, but picked up 4 points and confidence on the road, defeating Texas Lutheran on Friday, and drawing the host of this weekend’s SCAC Championships, Southwestern, on Sunday.

The Kangaroos enter the tournament as the #6-seed, and will face the #3-seed Pirates in the first round this Friday at 1:30pm.  Second round of the tournament will be on Saturday, with the Championships scheduled on Sunday.  Follow @ACSoccer and @ACSports for updates on how our ‘Roos fare in competition this weekend.

Women’s Volleyball

Thank you all for packing the stands in Hughey Gymnasium on Senior Night against Arlington Baptist this past Thursday.  The atmosphere was electric as the Kangaroos swept the Patriots in our Seniors’ last home game.  That momentum carried into this past weekend, where the ‘Roos needed two victories to clinch an SCAC Tournament Spot, and did it!

6th-seed AC faces 3rd-seed Southwestern in Irving, TX on Friday, November 2nd, at 6:00PM.  If you can’t make it down to support the ‘Roos in person on the campus of the University of Dallas, make sure you follow @VBRoos and @ACSports for all updates as the tournament progresses.

    • Neutral vs. #3 Southwestern @ 6:00PM

Men’s & Women’s Swimming and Diving

Austin College travelled to Georgetown, TX for their second SCAC dual meet of the year, falling to the Pirates of Southwestern University 188-89 on the Men’s side, and 203-74 in the Women’s events.

Chris Brown got a first place finish in the 200 individual medley, Colton Baker won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, and Brooke Le took home the crown in the 50-freestyle, with several Kangaroos adding second place finishes on both sides.

AC travels to Hendrix this weekend for the Hendrix Classic, so follow @ACRoosSwim_Dive and @ACSports for updates, recaps, and final times.

    • Neutral vs. Hendrix Classic

Football

After a bye week, the ‘Roos are looking forward to two straight home games to finish their regular season; the first one scheduled for this Saturday against Trinity University.  The Tigers come to town with a 4-2 record in the SAA, and a 5-3 overall record.  Come out to Jerry Apple Stadium this weekend to support the ‘Roos, and follow @RoosFootball and @ACSports for score tracking, and updates on the game.

  • Saturday, November 3rd, 2018
    • Home vs. Trinity University @ 1:00PM

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country

Our Cross Country Teams closed out their seasons at the SCAC Cross Country Championships in Kerrville, TX this weekend.  Charlie McIntyre paced AC with an 18th place finish in the Men’s 8K, followed by RJ Navarro and Johnny Biffar in 24th and 31st place.  By placing 5th, the ‘Roos finished ahead of University of Dallas, Texas Lutheran, and host Schreiner.

In the Women’s 6K, Hannah Richards placed 17th overall, followed by Danielle Lozano in 23rd, and Hannah Fraga in 32nd.  With their 6th-place finish, Austin College finished ahead of host Schreiner University and just behind Southwestern.

Great job this year, AC!  And we look forward to the Spring SCAC Track Season in 2019.

Women’s Soccer

Women’s Soccer closed out their season on the road with a 2-1 defeat at Texas Lutheran and a 1-0 loss to Southwestern.  With the unseasonably rainy weather in 2018, AC had to cancel a total of 5 matches, 4 of which were against SCAC opponents.  While they may have missed the SCAC Tournament this season, we are excited about this young group of First-years and Sophomores coming back for 2019, and we are thankful to the departing Seniors who gave their all for 4 years on the pitch.

It's Tourney Time, AC!  So you know what to do.  Follow @ACSports for all updates regarding every team in action this weekend.  And pay special attention to Friday, November 2nd, as Men’s Soccer and Volleyball take on Southwestern in their respective first-rounds.

We also have a Home Game this weekend, with Football hosting Trinity University at 1:00PM on Saturday, November 3rd.  So come out to Jerry Apple Stadium to cheer our Kangaroos to victory.  Provided below are all the social media accounts of teams in action this weekend…
