'Roos Ready for Postseason Play

'Roos Ready for Postseason Play

SHERMAN, Texas - With the regular season completed, the Austin College men's and women's soccer teams, as well as the volleyball team, now turn their attention to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason. All three programs qualified for postseason play this season, joining the cross country teams - who competed last weekend in the SCAC Championship Meet - and giving each Kangaroo fall sports team with a conference postseason event an opportunity to compete beyond the regular season.

The volleyball team will be the first in action on Friday in Kerrville, where the conference tournament is being hosted by Schreiner. The 'Roos enter the tournament as the No. 5-seed after finishing the year with an overall record of 24-12 and a conference mark of 6-8, and will take on No. 4-seed Texas Lutheran at 10:30 a.m. The 'Roos and Bulldogs squared off twice during the regular season, with TLU taking both matches by scores of 3-0 and 3-1. The winner of tomorrow morning's match moves on to face Colorado College, the top-seed and currently the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The loser will head to the 5th/6th place match at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The men's soccer team is the next 'Roo program to get the postseason underway with an 11:00 a.m. match in Irving, and like the volleyball team they'll be meeting Texas Lutheran in the opening round. The 'Roos earned the No. 4-seed in the SCAC after going 8-6-4 overall and finishing conference play with a 6-5-3 mark. Austin College took on TLU twice during the regular season, splitting the two matches with the Bulldogs. The 'Roos earned a 2-1 overtime victory at home, while the Bulldogs topped the 'Roos 3-2 in Seguin. Friday's winner advances to take on top-seeded Trinity on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The University of Dallas hosts this year's tournament.

The women's soccer team caps off Friday's action and, just like volleyball and men's soccer, the 'Roos will take on Texas Lutheran in the opening round. Centenary hosts this year's tournament, with tomorrow's game being played at 3:30 p.m. in Shreveport, Louisiana. Austin College finished the regular season with a record of 4-13-1 and a conference mark of 3-8-1 to get the No. 6-seed in the tournament. The 'Roos fell twice to the Bulldogs during the regular season, with a 2-0 loss in Sherman followed by a 3-0 defeat in Seguin later in the year. The winner of tomorrow's match advances to take on No. 2-seed Schreiner.
