This Week in AC Athletics, 11/13 - 11/19

Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break starting next week, #RooNation.  It’s the time of year where you need a break to refocus yourselves to attack the finish line that is the end of the semester.  Have a safe and happy holiday week, and make sure you keep an eye out for athletic competitions happening before, during, and after the week of Thanksgiving.

Let’s recap last week’s competitions and this weekend’s schedule in first Winter Sports installment of the Austin College Athletics Update!

Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving

The Kangaroo Swimming & Diving Teams fell to Southwestern in a SCAC showdown at Hannah Natatorium this past weekend.  The Women’s Team dropped a 169-73 result, while the men were defeated 151-107.

To kick off Thanksgiving Break, the Kangaroos will go on the road to the campus of the University of the Ozarks to take on the Eagles and the Hendrix College Warriors.  First event is set to begin at 6:00PM.

  • Friday, November 17th, 2017 (Clarksville, AR)
    • Away vs. University of the Ozarks & Hendrix College @ 6:00PM

Women’s Basketball

Austin College opened their season on the road on Wednesday at the University of Texas-Dallas in a 67-47 defeat.

AC is picked to finish 2nd in the conference standings by year’s end, so they will look to get started proving why they should be #1 when they host Hendrix and Millsaps in Hughey Gymnasium on Saturday and Sunday.  Come on out to support the ‘Roos if you’re nearby.

  • Saturday, November 18th, 2017
    • Home vs. Hendrix College @ 3:00PM
  • Sunday, November 19th, 2017
    • Home vs. Millsaps College @ 1:00PM

Men’s Basketball

The Kangaroos opened their season at LeTourneau on Wednesday against the Yellow Jackets in a 105-78 defeat.

LeTourneau will come to Hughey Gymnasium at the end of the month to complete a “home-and-home” with AC, but first the Roos will host Hendrix and Millsaps in their home opener to kick off Thanksgiving Break.  Come out to show your support if you are in the area against two SAA foes!

  • Friday, November 17th, 2017
    • Home vs. Hendrix College @ 7:00PM
  • Sunday, November 19th, 2017
    • Home vs. Millsaps College @ 5:00PM

Women’s Cross Country

The Women’s Kangaroo Cross Country Team finished 24th in the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championship at Newport News, Virginia.

Hannah Richards posted another record-breaking result with a 22:58.5 6K, finishing 43rd place overall. Eden Llamas was right behind her in 56th place, and Alex Quinn finished her senior year with a 25:11.3 result.

Congratulations on an historic season for the Kangaroos this year.  We all cannot wait to see what is in store next year for a hard-working ground of Women’s XC runners in 2018.

Football

We dropped a heartbreaker in our season finale in Memphis, TN on the Football field.  Leading the Lynx in the final seconds, Rhodes College scored on a deep touchdown pass to win the game as time expired.  When the dust settled, the scoreboard read Rhodes 37, Austin College 32.

We have a lot to be proud of from this season, #RooNation.  With a win over SAA-affiliate Millsaps (who compiled 2 SAA wins this season), and close defeats to Trinity, Rhodes, Hendrix, and Sewanee, anything is possible next year for the Kangaroos under Head Coach Loren Dawson in 2018.  Go ‘Roos and we’ll see you next season on the gridiron.

Swimming & Diving is on the road tomorrow, and Men’s and Women’s Basketball is hosting their home openers in the SCAC/SAA challenge Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Make sure to come show your support if you’re nearby, or follow social media from abroad to keep apprised to all the results and updates.
