This Week in AC Athletics, 2/19 - 2/25

An SCAC Conference Championship, two regionally ranked victories over the Northwest Conference, a 1-0 start to a Spring Sports Season, and several podium appearances highlighted the bevy of AC Athletics activity from this past weekend.  Rain or shine, the ‘Roos are always hard at work representing the brand that is Austin College.

We have several schedule updates to inform you about, as well as the accomplishments of last week’s events.  So without further ado, it’s time for the AC Athletics Update!

Softball

The poor weather conditions forced Softball to cancel their games against Texas A&M – Texarkana this past Saturday.  But a road trip to Jackson, MS this weekend to face the Millsaps and Missouri Baptist might be just what the doctor ordered with rainy conditions in Sherman forcing practices indoors all week.

AC takes on The Majors at 11:00AM on Friday and 10:00AM on Saturday while the matchups with the Spartans are set for 1:00PM on Friday, and 12:00PM this Saturday.  So make sure you follow @ACRoosSoftball for all updates and scores on the weekend.

The double-header at home against Louisiana College on Saturday has been cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather, but Sunday’s doubleheader against the visitors from Pineville, LA is still on for 12PM & 3PM.  Come on out to Baker Field for what looks to be a beautiful day at the ballgame.

Diana Carvajalino and Anna Sergiovanni were voted SCAC Women’s Doubles Team of the Week for the second weekend in a row for their 8-4 victory at Line 1 over Whitworth.

While Saturday morning’s matchup at home against the Southwestern Pirates may have been cancelled earlier today, last weekend’s rescheduled matchup against #34 East Texas Baptist is still on for 3:00PM on 2/24.  Once the rain clears, come out to the Elizabeth Russell Tennis Center to view some nationally-ranked tennis on campus.

On Sunday, if you are in the Richardson, TX area, come out to the tennis courts at the University of Texas-Dallas where the ‘Roos will take on visiting Millsaps in a rematch that went 5-4 for the Majors just a year ago.  All of the action will be posted on @ACRoosMWTennis for those of you not able to make the trip.

Men’s Tennis

The Men’s Tennis Team secured a big 7-2 victory over Whitworth University, ranked #19 in the West Region Men’s ITA Rankings.  A huge 3-0 doubles sweep of the Pirates set the tone for the Kangaroos as Calum Robe and Erik Meendsen battled from behind at Line 3 to get a thrilling 9-8 (7-4) tiebreak victory to put the ‘Roos up 3-0.

The home rematch from last year’s SCAC Semi-Final thriller against Southwestern set for this Saturday, 2/24 has been cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather.  But the previously rescheduled match at home against East Texas Baptist is still set for 3:00PM on the same day.  Follow @ACRoosMWTennis for all of the live action and score/weather updates on the day of the event.
